Health Perch is geared towards helping people make informed decisions regarding their physical health and mental well-being. It chose to cover the Meat Free movement as a topic for a number of reasons.

“In the constant effort to improve health and life, we recognise that nixing meat from your diet one day a week can have incredible benefits,” said Janel Crisp Goodwin, Health Perch Project Manager. “For instance, it may help lower your cancer risk, your risk for heart disease, and even help you lose weight.

Goodwin added: “Avoiding meat one day a week is a simple way to help the environment, as well, by reducing your carbon footprint, conserving energy, water, and lower our dependence on fossil fuels.”

The infographic (below) highlights these multiple reasons for reducing meat consumption in a clear and digestable way, and shows the increasing number of countries which have an active Meat Free day campaign: currently Australia, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Croatia, Denmark, France, Germany, Holland, Honduras, Hong Kong, Hungary, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Jamaica, Japan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Philippines, Portugal, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Turkey, the UK and the USA.

This infographic was published in April 2014 and reflects the countries participating at that time. There will most likely be changes to the countries involved in the movement and it is hoped that the number of countries continues to grow.
