To celebrate the opening of her new store in Soho New York at the start of the month, the Meat Free Monday founder invited a few of her closest friends around for a special dinner.

The champagne fountain and New York-shaped ice sculptures were impressive, but what got everyone talking was the Meat Free Monday menu specially curated by chef Mario Batali, a recent campaign convert.

Starters was farro with beets and orange segments and warm avocado squash sformato, with mains of artichoke ravioli with lemon-fennel butter and tomato, aubergine and goat’s cheese tart, finished off with a delicious warm chocolate Nutella tart with vanilla gelato.

As if that weren’t enough, the dishes were served on little boats that floated down a table “moat” to guests including Liv Tyler, Naomi Watts, Kristen Wiig, Stephanie Seymour, Jason Sudeikis and Anna Wintour.

With a brand new Stella McCartney store due to open on Fulham Road, West London, in February, her UK-based friends – and all the rest of us! – will be hoping for an invite.
